Apple has released its first iPhone update of 2025, iOS 18.2.1. The new version is apparently purely a bug fix update. The company recommends installation.
Apple releases new iPhone update
In September 2024, Apple released iOS 18, a comprehensive feature update for the iPhone. Since then, the iPhone company has continuously developed the AI functions of Apple Intelligence. With iOS 18.1 and iOS 18.2, the company has added additional functions. Meanwhile, iOS 18.2.1 is apparently purely a bug update.
What’s in iOS 18.2.1?
Apple is keeping quiet about information regarding iOS 18.2.1. The company writes on one Information page simply: “This update contains important bug fixes and is recommended for all users.”
Background information: Apple usually lists relevant security gaps on a support page that are fixed when they update. However, this is not the case with iOS 12.8.1. This means: The update apparently contains pure bug fixes. But the company does not provide any specific information about this either.
However, several small system errors have already been reported recently. One of them concerns the Mail app. Some users report that messages are not displayed correctly or not at all.
Instead, they would have to access emails via the web browser. Meanwhile, other users complain about regular crashes in the messaging app. However, those affected can only find out whether iOS 18.2.1 fixes these errors by installing it.
Install iOS 18.2.1
iOS 18.2.1 has been available for free download since January 6, 2024. Apple traditionally recommends prompt installation. The update is available for all models starting with the iPhone XS and the second generation iPhone SE. The version can be changed via the device settings under “Generally” and “Software update“ can be downloaded.
With iPadOS 18.2.1, Apple has also presented a new update for the iPad. It is available on all devices starting with the iPad Pro (M4), the fifth generation iPad Pro (12.9-inch), the third generation iPad Pro (11-inch), the tenth generation iPad, the iPad Air (M2), the third generation iPad Air and the fourth generation iPad mini.
