Apple has released iOS 18.4, Ipados 18.4 and Macos Sequoia 15.4. With the software updates, the iPhone group brings its AI system Apple Intelligence to Germany.
Apple Intelligence has been available in the USA since the summer of 2024. Since then, use of the AI system has only been possible within the EU via detours. The reason: there were legal uncertainties related to the Digital Markets Act (DMA). Because the EU regulation should regulate large technology companies to guarantee fair competition.
Among other things, the DMA requires that the large US companies give other providers access to their platforms without prefering their own services. In order to meet European regulations, Apple has therefore adapted its AI system accordingly. Since April 1, 2025, Apple Intelligence has also been available in Germany and Europe via the updates iOS 18.4, Ipados 18.4 and Macos Sequoia 15.4.
What is Apple Intelligence?
Apple Intelligence is an AI system from Apple that was developed for the iPhone, iPad and the Mac. It should serve as a kind of personal assistant. For example, the AI submits suggestions based on its own usage behavior – including in apps, messages and surfing.
Apple Intelligence should help sort and edit photos. For example, the AI automatically detects objects and people that can be removed or changed. The system can also improve the color designs, add filters and change backgrounds.
With Apple Intelligence, texts can be translated or summarized directly into other languages. The system also suggests suitable words and formulations when writing. Errors should be recognized automatically and corrected in real time. The voice assistant Siri is said to have become smarter. For example, it is now possible to write with the system.
However, the most important innovation is missing. Because Apple wanted to revise Siri from scratch and develop it into a personal AI assistant. However, the new Siri was postponed due to internal problems. In addition, Apple Intelligence is only available on current Apple devices. Among them: all iPhones of the 16, the iPhone 15 Pro and per max.
iOS 18.4: That is in the new iPhone update
In addition to Apple Intelligence, iOS 18.4 brings some more new functions and innovations to the iPhone. In the future, so -called priority notifications will appear in the first place in order to highlight important information. The photo app in turn receives new filter functions.
This should give users the opportunity to only display certain elements. Content that are not included in an album or were synchronized with other devices should be hidden. Apple also wants to have improved the sorting function.
The Safari browser is intended to automatically propose a recent search queries with iOS 18.4. As a result, users should be able to access content that has already been read again quickly. Downloads and updates can now also be paused without the progress being lost when continuing. iOS 18.4 also brings eight new emojis to the iPhone.
For a faster overview, the App Store will summarize user reviews in the future. The new function ambience Music makes it possible to play music directly via the control center. iOS 18.4 also fixes some smaller security gaps and fixes various mistakes.
Install iOS 18.4
iOS 18.4 has been available for free download since March 31, 2025. Apple traditionally recommends a timely installation.
