Police authorities in China have recently started using ball robots to catch criminals. The robo-cops are supposed to use AI to independently identify crimes.
Police departments in China have recently welcomed a new generation of spherical robots presented. They should not only help identify crimes, but also apprehend criminals.
The autonomous ball robots come from Logon Technology. They have modern AI and can operate on both land and water. The company has already tested the robo-cops in cities, where they patrolled alongside human police officers.
The ball robots reach speeds of up to 35 kilometers per hour. Their robust structure, which is said to be able to withstand a four-ton impact, makes them virtually indestructible, according to Logon Technology.
Police ball robots are supposed to fight crime
Local authorities can equip the ball robots, also called RT-Gs, with non-lethal police equipment such as net-throwing devices, tear gas sprayers and loudspeakers. With the help of AI, the robot cops will be able to analyze their surroundings, detect suspicious activities and identify criminals using facial recognition.
They can also trigger an alarm, call for backup or intervene independently, for example by throwing a net at suspects. The Chinese police want to use the RT-G robots especially in dangerous situations and difficult to access environments. Because human police officers would be at high risk there.

The development is part of a broader initiative by China to use advanced robotic technologies in the security industry. In addition to ball robots, the country is also testing four-legged robot dogs and humanoid robots that are intended to take on a variety of tasks.
