In the “Homescreen!” series, we present the homescreens of people from the social media, marketing, media and tech industries – including app recommendations. Today: Thorsten Flugel, Head of Brand at snack manufacturer KoRo.

Thorsten Wing: Hi, I’m Thorsten and I’ve been Head of Brand at KoRo since March 2024. We at KoRo love innovative snacks and high-quality food and want to pass on this passion for our products to our customers.

Since I work half-time remotely from Hamburg and regularly commute to the KoRo office in Berlin, I also use my phone for many work topics.

I make sure to keep my home screen as minimal as possible and not to overload it. Because these days we are bombarded with apps – I only want to use the things that really benefit me.

Thorsten Wing: These apps make me mobile

Communication is everything, especially in dynamic teams and on various projects. Slack (for Android) is for me the central tool for team and project communication and covers everything – whether quick agreements or detailed discussions. The ability to communicate in specific channels to find and share information in the context of the specific project or team makes things easier.

Gmail (for Android), calendar (for Android): With these apps I can access my emails, appointments and documents and work productively at any time and from anywhere. I can no longer imagine my everyday work without them.

For idea generation and brainstorming Miro (for Android) simply the perfect tool. Whether mind maps or visual concepts, Miro is my go-to tool for the creative process.

In Notion (for Android), we collect all project-relevant aspects and details. It is THE project management tool at KoRo and helps to keep an overview. I particularly like the clear structure of the tool, which can be adapted very individually to the needs of the team.

Apps that inspire me

For visual inspiration and mood boards Pinterest (for Android) great. Whether trends, designs or project ideas: I find inspiration there and can work out my creative ideas. Thanks to the diverse image content from different areas, I always stay up to date and can use inspiration directly for KoRo projects.

Yes, I use it too ChatGPT (for Android). Sometimes the app gives me fresh perspectives and new food for thought to further develop my ideas or see them from new directions. Especially when it comes to strategic topics or creative questions, I receive alternative approaches and additional information quickly.

To stay in touch with family and friends is Whatsapp (for Android) a must for me. It is the default app for this. LinkedIn (for Android) is my contact point not only during work but also afterwards to maintain my professional network. Here I stay informed about industry trends and follow exciting developments from contacts.

After work essentials

I love entertainment. There’s nothing better to relax. Each service has its specific content – I’m currently looking at this Netflix (for Android) “The Brothers Suns”. On Disney Plus (for Android): all Star Wars series and on Prime Video (for Android): “Dr. House”.

With Zalando (for Android) and Amazon (for Android) you can’t go wrong. There I can quickly and easily find the most important things for shopping. Practical when I need something quickly and don’t have much time to browse.

Nimble (for Android) and Lieferando (for Android) are my go-to apps when things have to be done quickly and I don’t have time to go shopping – especially on days when I’m out and about a lot or come back late.

Instagram (for Android) and TikTok (for Android): KoRo has a strong presence on social media and I have to know what’s trending. Music is essential for me – my daily companion, whether while working or relaxing. On Spotify (for Android) listen to hip hop at the gym and grime from the UK to feel good.

Surfline (for Android) shows me the current wave conditions and forecasts when I go surfing – when surfing, planning is everything. Even if I can’t make it to the beach right now, I can at least keep track of where the best waves would be waiting for me.

Thorsten Flugel: Apps that I no longer use

Duolingo (for Android) is a useful app for learning and practicing languages. After all, I don’t want my Spanish to get rusty. With Miles (for Android) I can get from A to B quickly and easily. I particularly like the fact that the distance traveled and not the time traveled is calculated.

Urban sports (for Android): I’m a real gym enthusiast and find the flexibility of using different studios super practical, especially because I commute a lot between Berlin and Hamburg. With Radio.de (for Android) I keep up to date with current events. Even if I don’t use it every day, the app is practical for quickly listening to the news.

Apps that I no longer use: Many people have probably tried various mobile games, but so far none have been able to catch me for long. Photo and video apps also belong on every smartphone, but as soon as the paywall comes up, I’m out.

Insider tip: the KoRo app (for Android). We are currently testing the first version of the app. It is intended to help make the shopping experience even easier, to provide an overview of our wide product range and to discover new things. A must-have for me, of course.
